South Korea 1996-7: Busan

East Sea

South Korea was my gateway to Asia.  I spent half of 1996 and some of the next year in Busan, its second largest city. At that time, there were next to no foreigners living there; few amenities, like English books or non-Korean food;  massive roaches and a stench that kept me up at night! It was a real "sink or swim" introduction to Asia. 

Looking back however, the friends I made at that time I still count amongst my best - and I may never have learned to love Korean food as I do now had I not been forced to adapt. I am glad I lived in Busan and what's more, in some ways, I miss it! Here are some photos of that memorable year...
