Lava Field, Bali

Sitting in a lava field by a volcanic lake is a fine way to pass an evening, and there's no better place for it than Bali. The Hindu island is actually quite large, sporting not only legendary beaches and nightlife but a rich history and picturesque mountains and rice fields. Backpackers everywhere were outraged and deeply disturbed by the horrific bombings there. Here are some photos from my first visit in September and October, 1997.
