Sumatra is full of special places. In the rainforest at Bukkit Lawang
you can see Orangutan in the forest. There's a rehabilitation program there where these gentle apes are re-introduced to the
wild after a life in zoos or private collections. Danang Toba is the largest vocanic lake on Earth. Samosir island on Toba
is an alarmingly fertile island with a unique local culture that has been isolated from even the rest of Sumatra until recently.
Together with dazzling landscape, great Pedang food, and pleasant mountain towns, these places made Sumatra a rewarding trip
in December 1997. Here are some images from paradise.
